Out of Surgery!

The plastic surgeon just came out to tell us that Liz has been moved to the recovery room. His words were, "I'm not really sure what to tell you; things went smoothly. There was minimal blood loss and the results look great."

We still have at least an hour before she heads to her room. I will update the blog again later tonight.

Oh yeah, and as so kindly pointed out by Mr. Miller, my choice of words in the last paragraph of the previous post should probably be amended to read, "a weight has been lifted off our shoulders." Thanks Nate!

So I just told Seamus that Liz's surgery went well. Here's the conversation:

Seamus: "That's really good mom. Now we don't have to go to church any more."

Me: "Ummm. No buddy, we'll still go to church."

Seamus: "Mom? Is she having her breasts replaced?"

Me: "Ummm. Well, actually yes, Seamus, she is."

Seamus: "When doctors replace a knee, they put in a metal part. Are they doing that for Liz?"

Me: "Ummm. I don't think so buddy, they take some muscles from her back to replace where the cancer was."

Seamus: "Too bad. Metal would be way cooler."

I guess he's right - metal breasts would be cool.

Hi LIz (and Scott)

I tried to post a comment last night, but apparently I'm not technically savvy enough to figure out how to make my comments actually appear. I'll cross my fingers that I have better luck this time...

Anyway, I have been praying and thinking of you all day, and am sooo glad that things are going well. I hope these next 24 hours are as pain free (or managed) as possible.

Hang tough,
Martha Conners

Scott,
The alum board wants to send Liz some flowers. Should we send them to the hospital or your home? What hospital is she at?
